Selectmen approve annual warrant with $900,000 fire apparatus authorization

Berkley Selectmen unanimously approved the final Annual Town Meeting Warrant, authorizing up to $900,000 in borrowing for a new fire apparatus and establishing an override stabilization fund for schools. Board Chair Jennifer Vincent and member Tabitha McCrohan led a detailed Fiscal Year 2027 budget discussion with the Finance Committee, examining override and no-override contingency scenarios and highlighting critical staffing shortages, IT system deficiencies, and potential service reductions including transfer station and Town Hall hours, library operations, and Council on Aging access if no override passes. Both bodies agreed the Finance Committee would conduct intensive work immediately, including additional Monday meetings, to develop preliminary restructuring recommendations before a public forum.
