Berkley Selectmen approve $4.9M override and Eagle Scout project

misc · Meeting of March 4, 2026

Berkley Selectmen place $4.9M override on spring ballot. The Board voted unanimously to ask voters in May to approve an additional $4,874,558 in property taxes for municipal and school operating expenses and a specialized reserve stabilization fund for fiscal year 2027. Town Administrator Matthew Chabot noted health insurance renewals came in at 6.8 percent versus the budgeted 16 percent, but the Board retained the full amount to hedge against future spikes and fund a potential part-time town planner.

The Board also unanimously appropriated $3,113,156.11 to the Somerset-Berkley High School Special Purpose Stabilization Fund for FY27, approved an Eagle Scout project to install benches on the Town Common, and voted to implement building permit fee increases effective April 1, 2026.
